Digital-democratic school development
KS01h, Tuesday 05:15pm - 06:45pm, weekly MS 29e, house 5, 134
Lecturer: Katrin Hahn-Laudenberg
This seminar focuses on the possibilities and opportunities, challenges, limits and conditions for success of participatory school development with regard to the design of school digitality. In the context of simulating a school development process, the effects and potentials of text-generating artificial intelligence (AI) such as ChatGPT for democratic school development will be discussed. Based on this, concrete school development projects will be designed in working groups. In doing so, democratic pedagogical concepts, current empirical research and practical examples will be taken into account and reflected against the background of the pedagogical and legal framework of school development and school participation. Thematic focuses include the design of AI-integrating and AI-related teaching processes as well as concepts of digital-participatory school and classroom design.
Controversy in the classroom
KS01i, Wednesday 11:15am - 01:45pm, weekly MS 31, house 3, 224
Lecturer: Katrin Hahn-Laudenberg
Schools and teaching are increasingly becoming the focus of socio-political debates: In an open society characterized by diversity, how should controversy be shaped in the classroom? How should topics such as environmental protection, migration, sexuality or health policy be discussed in the classroom? How should schools respond to populism and conspiracy theories? To what extent are teachers allowed to take a position on these issues? In this seminar, possibilities and challenges of shaping controversy in the classroom will be located in an interdisciplinary, theoretical, conceptual and empirical way and discussed in relation to the practical implementation of existing pedagogical and didactical concepts in the German-speaking as well as international research area. In the seminar we will work, among other things, with animated films in which real teaching scenes are portrayed. These show key situations in the classroom (critical incidents), which are reflected upon in the seminar with regard to their potential for learning processes and possible professional options for action.
Diversity-reflective teacher education
KS01f, Monday 05:15pm - 06:45pm, DR 5-7, 016
Lecturer: Katrin Hahn-Laudenberg
This seminar is part of the project DAWLS (Diversity Reflective Education and Training of (prospective) teachers with the help of animated school scenes). We focus on working with and further developing digital teaching/learning materials. These should support (prospective) teachers in reflecting on their own convictions and attitudes in the context of diversity as well as in developing strategies of action for challenging situations in educational institutions. In dealing with animated situations of demand, we will, among other things, deal with the (re)production of difference and the (self-)positioning in relations of difference. For this purpose, we will work out and discuss migration-pedagogical, difference-theoretical and racism-critical approaches using concrete examples. The media packages include animated videos with school scenes and tasks for the development of reflection and action competencies. The necessary digital competencies for the design of the animation videos as well as the tasks are acquired or developed in the seminar, i.e. no prior technical knowledge is required.
Neutral, balanced, steadfast? Politically and Scientifically Controversial Issues as Challenges for Schools and Teachers
KS01r, Thursday 05.15pm - 06.45pm, digital
Lecturer: Marcus Kindlinger
Schools and teaching are increasingly becoming the focus of sociopolitical debates: How should topics such as environmental protection, migration, sexuality or health policy be discussed in the classroom? How should schools respond to populism and conspiracy theories? To what extent are teachers allowed to position themselves on these issues? In this seminar, we will address, among other things, the second principle of the Beutelsbach Consensus, according to which what is controversial in science and politics should appear controversial in the classroom. This precept forms the basis for our discussion of theoretical claims to and methodological possibilities for shaping controversy in various subjects. One focus of the seminar will be the analysis of real situations in German classrooms. To this end, we will watch animated films from the LArS.nrw project and discuss them against the background of theoretical considerations. Furthermore, you will try out in the seminar to design your own lessons controversially and to react to possible challenges.
Creation of digital teaching materials for diversity-reflective teacher education
KS01e, Monday 5.15pm - 6.45pm, digital
Lecturer: Korcan Yeşil & Katrin Hahn-Laudenberg
In this seminar you will develop digital teaching/learning materials under didactic and technical supervision for the project DAWLS (Diversitätsreflexive Aus- und Weiterbildung von (angehenden) Lehrpersonen mithilfe animierter Schulszenen / diversity-reflective teacher education using animated school scenes). The materials can be used for (prospective) teachers to reflect on their convictions and attitudes in the context of diversity and help develop action strategies for other challenging situations in educational institutions. We are going to discuss and gather information on different approaches on pedagogy of migration and criticism of racism. This will build our theoretical foundation for the design of learning processes for the professionalization of (prospective) teachers in the seminar. The resulting media packages include animated videos with school scenes as well as tasks for the development of reflection and action competences. The animated school situations will be based on already existing research results/transcripts with school actors. Every needed competence for the design of the animation videos as well as other tasks will be acquired and/or expanded during the seminar. This means that no prior technical knowledge is necessary.
Neutral, balanced, steadfast? Societal, Politically and Scientifically Controversial Issues as Challenges for Schools and Teachers

KS01l, Tuesday 5.15pm - 6.45pm, digital
Lecturer: Marcus Kindlinger
School and teaching are increasingly becoming the focus of socio-political debates: How are topics like protection of the environment, migration, sexuality or health care supposed to be discussed in class? How should schools respond to populism and conspiracy theories? To what extent are teachers allowed to take a position on these issues? In this seminar, we will address, among other things, the second principle of the Beutelsbacher Konsens, according to which those concepts, that are controversial in science and politics, should appear controversial in the classroom. This precept forms the basis for our discussion on theoretical claims and methodological possibilities for shaping controversy in various subjects. In addition, a special focus will be put on the analysis of real situations in German classrooms. For this purpose, we will watch animated films from the LArS.nrw project and discuss them against the background of theoretical considerations.
School Development and Participation
KS01j, Tuesday 3.15pm - 4.45pm, DR 5-7, room 101
Lecturer: Katrin Hahn-Laudenberg
In this seminar emphasis will be put on possibilities, chances, challenges, limits and conditions of a participative development at schools. We will discuss concepts of Civic Education, current research as well as practical examples. Those insights will be reflected against the background of educational and legal framework of school development and participation at school. Another focus will be put on student participation at school and concepts of participatory teaching. Furthermore we will try to connect project-, teaching- and school-related learning opportunities, for instance ones affiliated with contexts of migration and integration.
