For our research project KEeKS_train we developed an evidence-based vocabulary training for preschool children. The interactive training promotes children’s language skills by reading and acting out stories with them. Our aim is to investigate how such targeted language training benefits children’s emotional skills.
Emotional self-regulation is related to children’s social and academic development. Therefore, the ability to regulate emotions is crucial for children’s education, academic success and socio-emotional adjustment. Children’s language skills, in turn, are critical to the development of emotional self-regulation.
Our research project extends the correlations described above by investigating the influence of a Shared-Reading and Guided-Play training programme on the development of domain-specific vocabulary, emotion understanding and emotion regulation skills in preschool children. In addition, specific developmental risk factors will be taken into account to gain a better understanding of their influence on the training effect.
